ORDO

Text looks garbled when I open a CSV

The file may have been read with the wrong encoding. Review the preview and source encoding before converting to XLSX. ORDO preserves the text it can read; it cannot reconstruct characters already replaced in the source.

UTF-8 text read with the wrong encoding.

Review before converting

  1. Choose the CSV and inspect its preview.
  2. Check the source encoding when text looks wrong. Supported encodings include UTF-8 and Windows-874.
  3. Keep identifiers and leading-zero values as text.
  4. Convert and inspect the resulting workbook.

Sending CSV to another spreadsheet reader

ORDO writes CSV as UTF-8 with a byte-order mark. Compatible spreadsheet readers can identify its encoding without guessing.

Is my file uploaded?

No. This tool runs inside your browser on this device. ORDO's servers never receive the file, and the page's security policy blocks it from sending file data anywhere.

Limits worth knowing

  • Characters already replaced by question marks cannot be recovered without the original file.
  • Ambiguous dates and numeric formats should be reviewed, not guessed.
  • Large files are limited by device memory.
