How to sign a PDF without uploading it

Open the PDF in ORDO and add your signature as a picture (photographed on white paper) or draw it with the pen. It all happens in your browser and the file isn't uploaded. ORDO does image and handwritten signatures; it can't do certificate-based digital signatures.

Two kinds of signature on a PDF

Ask the recipient which kind they accept before you start.

  • Image or handwritten signature: a picture or pen stroke placed on the page. ORDO does this. It suits ordinary forms, quotes and documents where the recipient accepts this kind.
  • Certificate-based digital signature: tied to an electronic certificate and able to show whether the file changed afterwards. ORDO doesn't support it. Some organisations require it.

Turn your signature into a picture

  1. Sign with a dark pen on white paper.
  2. Photograph it in good light with the paper flat and no shadow.
  3. In Edit PDF choose the Picture tool and pick the PNG or JPG.
  4. Press Make white see-through so only the signature shows, without a white box.
  5. Move, resize or rotate it into the signature space, then download.

Or draw it on the page

The Pen tool draws with a finger, mouse or stylus. Check the result on the page before you download.

Why not upload

Contracts and forms that need a signature usually hold personal details. A service that processes files on its servers puts your file somewhere else, under that service's own rules.

ORDO opens, edits and saves the PDF in your browser, and the page's security settings stop it sending files anywhere else. You can check yourself: open your browser's Network tab while you work — you'll see the page's own files loading and usage statistics with no file content or file names, and no upload of your PDF.

Is my file uploaded?

No. This tool runs inside your browser on this device. ORDO's servers never receive the file, and the page's security policy blocks it from sending file data anywhere.

Limits worth knowing

  • No certificate-based digital signatures.
  • A signature image doesn't prove who signed: anyone with the picture can place it. Use it where the recipient accepts that.
  • The result is drawn into the page; it isn't a clickable signature field.
  • Password-protected PDFs need the password removed first.
